


The Mountain Leader Award Winter scheme (Winter ML training, Winter ML assessment) provides a Nationaly recognised leadership award for those leading walking groups in the mountains of the UK in winter conditions.

The courses are run by Steve Spalding and moderated by MLTS so you can expect a high standard of tuition.
You should already hold the Mountain Leader Award and be a committed winter hill walker with 12 months or twenty Quality Mountain Days (QMD's) experience to attend a training course. Check the link for detailed prospectus.
Our courses are centrally based in Pitlochry at a comfortable Guest House where you get a warm welcome and amazing breakfasts from Martin and Heather Walls at Dalshian House .
During the course we try and go to new venues each day increasing your experience of working with prevailing weather , interpreting snow conditions, safe travel techniques and navigation.
Areas used include Glen Shee, Drumochter, Lawers group, Cairngorms and Laggan area.
To make a booking for a training course you must have registered for the Winter ML Award scheme with MLTS.
To join an assessment you need a minimum of 40 QMD's in three areas of the UK plus 10 named grade one winter climbs or gully's and a current 16 hr 1st Aid Certificate.
